When I started " History Talks", the first lecture I offered was one on the Veiled Prophet entitled "Beneath the Veil". It has subsequently become the most popular. An amazing thing happened after several presentations. People began giving me VP memorabilia to share with others attending my talks. Now I try to take the budding collection whenever I speak on the Veiled Prophet.
The historic items include; a stunning poster dated 1932 from Laurie Kraft; a beautiful tray dated 1952 from Jean Burkhart; a handsome blue and white decorative plate from Jan Burmeister ; and the book of Thomas Moore's poem, LALLA ROOKH, a gift from Sheila Rhoades. The poem introduced the Veiled Prophet of Khorassan who was later adopted by St. Louis leaders for their annual event.
Thanks to these generous ladies, many people are now enjoying their respective family treasures. I plan to show them my appreciation by continuing to tell the fascinating VP story to as many as possible while displaying their gifts.
